The Family
When I was a child,
for me,
it was just a tomatoo…
…I remember that we could eat a 1kg crate in one night because we really liked it. Just few years later I began to comprehend the concept of a food production company: the evenings spent among the machinery, the look on my father’s face when every day we had to throw away 95% of the product because the final product didn’t match the expectations and the nights he also spent in the oven rooms to really understand what the problem could be. Sometimes, the desire to let it go left us in despair but, luckily the desire to succeed got the best of us.
Since high school, when Pomup was already an operating business, during summer my brother and I used to work in the production field to do “the apprenticeship”. That educational experience helped us to better comprehend the process and therefore understand the product even more.
After high school, unlike my brother who was already working in the company permanently, I decided to continue my studies in Milan animated by the dream of becoming the manager of some industrial giant. For me, Pomup was just the family business that allowed me to study and live in another city.
At the age of 27 I was in London when my father and my brother called me to tell me they needed me at the company. I was confused, torn, but excited. The Christmas holidays spent with the family allowed us to write down the guidelines of the “new” company managed by the family. The 31st of December 2015 Nuova Pomup Sicilia Srl was born with me and my brother Vito as managers.
We are a close-knit trio, each one has its role, we almost never see each other, but every important decision is always shared and discussed by the three of us. This is what makes us so united, each one of us with its own space. We complement each other. A valuable contribution to the company is also given by my husband Mauro. He is an agronomist and an expert in this field, so he follows the entire process from the production stage to always guarantee a safe and quality product.
Today, despite all the ups and downs, thanks to my mother we continue to invest and believe in the company. Perhaps, she is the person who most of all believed in this project and who has always followed it from “behind the scenes”. In fact, the most important choices have always been made in the kitchen of her home.
Now it’s up to us to make the company grow even more and exploit the full potential of this “treasure” making everyone taste a world’s unique product. A product, we produce in this our small country with food raw materials we have learned to know and love since such a young age. Who knows it won’t become an industrial giant.
